There will also be a special viewing of the exhibition Ballymena and the Great War.Join us for an overview of this defining period of Irish history which continues to fascinate succeeding generations. Philip Orr's seminal book, The Road to the Somme, which was recently republished this year, features the moving accounts of several veterans recorded in the 1980s. Authenic pieces of kit and weaponry used during the battle will be on display and members of the audience will have the opportunity to see and handle many of these historic artefacts.
Saturday 6th DecemberThe Ballymena Community History Partnership in conjunction with the Mid-Antrim Museums Service are excited to announce a day trip to the Somme Heritage Centre on Saturday 6th December. Guided tours bring the visitor back in time to 1910 where they learn about the Home Rule Crisis, recruiting and training of men and life in the trenches. Highlights include reconstructed trenches of the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
