Councillor PJ McAvoy, Mayor of Ballymena launched the My Treasure community exhibition on Saturday 18th May and warmly received project participants and their families from Larne, Coleraine and Ballymena.
28 May 2013As part of the welcome extended to those at the launch, Cllr PJ McAvoy, Mayor of Ballymena highly commended project participants for their willingness to share their stories and ‘treasures’ thereby supporting the building of relationships locally which is a core objective of this PEACE III funded project.
Community Groups including Ballymena Friendship Club, Glenravel Young at Heart, Carnlough Youth Club, Causeway Friendship Club, Age Concern, Coleraine and Causeway Yarnspinners, who all participated in the My Tresaure exhibition, enjoyed an excellent buffet lunch which was followed by the storytelling session, led by well-known local woman Liz Weir. Many people had brought along their 'treasured object' and were invited to share their stories with us all. Some stories were moving, others funny and a few were inspirational.
This exhibition, which runs at the Mid-Antrim Museum until Saturday 2nd July, will then travel to Coleraine Town Hall and to other museum and community venues. Mid-Antrim and Causeway Museum Services will use this exhibition resource as a focus to gather further stories, therey supporting the forging of new relationships.
