Ballymena Creative Citizens Programme 2014

Programme Partners: Voluntary Arts Ireland & Ballymena Borough Council

The Ballymena ‘Creative Citizens Programme’ is a pilot project in partnership with Voluntary Arts Ireland and includes a range of regional and local arts organisations.

The creative citizen concept has informed the development of a new UK & Ireland Strategy for Voluntary Arts 2014 – 17 and Ballymena Borough Council have been invited to be the pilot Council area for this exciting new programme. The Ballymena programme will give individuals, local arts groups and regional arts bodies the opportunity to come together to express and experience the arts in a 6 month showcase of creative citizenship across the Borough of Ballymena and beyond.

The aim of the Ballymena Programme is to create a local infrastructure that encourages and sustains the creative and cultural lives of local communities

The 6 month programme is designed to encourage & further advance active involvement in creative cultural activity, to give local people the chance to explore the value of creative citizenship, to develop audiences and to re-design spaces and services engaging with local & regional arts in a new and exciting way.

During the programme, the Borough of Ballymena will be hosting and organising a full programme of events, from major weekend Festivals, special launches and initiatives, on-line arts events and an international programme to Fringe events and creative opportunities for all its citizens.

A full programme of activities will be available from The Braid Arts Centre website from early March 2014 – www.thebraid.com
