Community History Partnership

The Ballymena Community History Partnership aims to bring together a range of local groups to advise Council on the use of the newly established Community History Fund. It also seeks to encourage collaboration, networking and sharing knowledge and information.

The partnership brings together a range of local groups. Current membership includes: Harryville Partnership, Dunclug and District Residents Association, Gracehill Old School Trust, Ballymena Inter-Ethnic Forum, Ballee Community Association, the Local Studies Section of NEELB, the North of Ireland Family History Society (Ballymena Branch), Cullybackey Environmental Improvement Association, Ballykeel 1 Community Association (plus five nominated Councillors). 

The 2008/9  programme is an exciting combination of trips, workshops, talks and other activities which focus on a wide range of historical topics and themes. Events are open to all and we hope that there's something for everyone!

  • Talk on the Great War by historian Philip Orr and Trench Line Lectures:  Thursday 27th November 2008
  • Guided tour and visit to Somme Heritage Centre:  Saturday 6th December 2008
  •  Making History exhibition launch: Thursday 18th December 2008
  • St Patrick's Chosen City, Armagh Coach Tour:  Saturday 6th March 2009
  • Ballymena and the Second World War, illustrated talk by Dessie Blackadder & wartime memorabilia show by War Years Remembered:  Thursday 9th April 2009
  • Step Back To........Wartime Ballymena Event:  11th - 14th April 2009
  • Legends In The Landscape Pilot Tour:  Thursday 25th July 2009
