What's it about?

THE ORPHAN BRIGADE: The Orphan Brigade is a community of artists and musicians based in Nashville. It was founded by Ben Glover, Neilson Hubbard and Joshua Britt. The group’s first album     Soundtrack To A Ghost Story was written, recorded and filmed in a haunted, Civil War house in Kentucky. At this time it was thought that the band would be a one off project, however, a series of gigs in Europe strengthen the bond and the project evolved into a solid band.

The European adventure continued, with their 2017 record Heart Of The Cave,  written after a period spent exploring 2500-year-old-caves in the Italian city of Osimo. The album contains songs explored themes of mysticism and personal transformation.

The Orphan Brigade will strengthen their Irish connection in 2019 as their upcoming album will be heavily influenced by the rich folklore of  County Antrim, the home area of its member Ben Glover. Like it’s predecessors this album will be recorded on the sites and locations that inspire the songs.

American Roots UK described the Orphan Brigade as “tugging at the heartstrings, is often uplifting, includes gorgeous melodies, great vocals and playing, brilliant arrangements and atmospheres that flow between deep, dark and spooky, as well as eerie and haunting with occasional flashes of light.”

Ben Glover is responsible for one of the biggest crowds ever to gather in the Ballymena Town Hall for the Braid Real Music Club. We are delighted for him to return with his Orphan Brigade in tow.

Joining the Orphan Brigade on the night will be the celebrated local act Arborist

ARBORIST launch their 2nd album A NORTHERN VIEW in The Menagerie, Belfast. It is the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album HOME BURIAL (???? MOJO, ???? The Guardian, 8/10 UNCUT) and has been called "a striking collection of songs, containing some of their finest work yet" by Clash Music and "skillfully amplifies Home Burial's pathos...a true Northern (Irish) star" in UNCUT Magazine.

The album features the singles Taxi and Here Comes the Devil which have been played widely across BBC 6Music from the likes of Cillian Murphy, Cerys Matthews, Gideon Coe, Steve Lamacq and John Hillcock.

Arborist came to the attention of the critics with their debut single, the Americana tinged 2015 debut single “Twisted Arrow” that features an astonishing duet with Kim Deal of The Breeders.

Their 2016 debut album Home Burial was nominated for the Northern Irish Music Prize and released to critical acclaim, with Mojo hailing it as “a staggering debut of depth and substance” and The Guardian calling it an “instant classic.”

A Northern View portrays a raw darkness but with glimpses of beauty at the heart of it all; the kind of balance found in records like Wilco’s A Ghost is Born or Songs Ohia’s Magnolia Electric Co. The album title felt like a nice way of framing all that came-out, like a clandestine publication of some kind. Though as McCambridge explains; “I recently discovered it’s a caravan park in Donegal, so there you go.”
