Successful 'Ways of Seeing' event held at the Braid

20 January 2015

Mid Antrim Museum at the Braid recently hosted the ‘Beyond the Moss’ event with music, stories and poems from Willie Drennan – Ulster Scots Orchestra. The event was part of the Ways of Seeing, A Sense of Place community engagement project in partnership with Mid Antrim Museums Service and supported by the Northern Ireland Museums Council. The project uses art works from the MAMS Museums art collections to highlight the local built heritage and stimulate connected stories and promote identity in your local area.

Over 60 participants gathered to celebrate Phase 1 of the project and to look forward to Phase 2 in 2015. The event, on the theme ‘A sense of place’ helped attendees gain knowledge and evoke memories about their local and surrounding areas. Through consultation with the groups in a workshop style format individuals gave feedback on phase 1 of the project and suggested ideas for phase 2. The event was filmed for use in a project exhibition with community contributions touring from September.

Comment from an attendee.  “I couldn’t praise the organisers too highly as the whole session was absolutely brilliant. It opened my eyes to how much history there was all around us.”
